    Description

    USS GOLET SS-361 memorial lost submarine first day cover honoring this brave World War II, 311 foot long Gato Class
    World War II diesel sub built in Manitowoc, Wisconsin and commissioned in 1943.
    She completed one war patrol in the Pacific, but was sunk by the enemy off Japan on 14 June 1944.
    All hands. sixty crewmen, were lost in this tragic battle.
    Cover postmarked at Lincoln, NE on Jan 28, 2021. Blue printed photo of snow on submarine printed on cachet #1634 was prepared by Alvin Eckert USCS #9964. Cover franked with a 55 cent flag stamp plus a 3 cent USN stamp from 1946.
